Colorado to New Mexico

Day 20

Truth & Consequences
07/05/2024
Truth & Consequences was a town called Hot Springs but was renamed in 1950 as a result of a game show. A very interesting town. The townsfolk are a friendly lot. At least 2 cars have stopped as they have seen I am taking a photo. Can you imagine that in Exeter!

Today we have toured the town which is full of galleries and murals. We have visited a couple of so called ‘ghost towns’ but they do not live up to the name. Some of the buildings in T & C offer better image fodder than those named such. Lots of neon signs so we will be going out when it is dark to see what we can find.

Today we also went to Elephant Butte Dam. I could not understand why it was called that but as you get closer it really becomes apparent. It really does look like an African elephant.

The image tonight was taken in a lovely cafe, a very healthy cafe where we had extraordinary smoothies. They did offer them with ‘kava’ in, which is apparently a sort of drug. They are very free with their drugs here.

Geoff went off for a soak as a spa by the river this afternoon. We still cannot decide whether we will move on tomorrow or not. It is in the high eighties here but it does get colder as you move north. Not ready to give up the heat yet!
