Colorado to New Mexico
Day 6
A Cultural Day in Santa Fe
23/04/2024
A lovely day dawned without a cloud in the sky. We had tickets for the Georgia O’Keefe Museum to start us off. It was an exhibition of a lot of her images other than her flowers (only a few of those). Extremely interesting to learn a lot more about her life. Did you know that one of her images sold for over $44m - which is still record for a painting by a female artist. We then went on a shopping spree and had some fun. Being enticed into a store and being plastered in youth rejuvenating cream by a delightful young man was very entertaining. He did take the lines out from under both our eyes which was magic! A chap dressed with sartorial elegance did allow me to take his photo. If he would like to see it look under my Gallery / Travel / Colorado and New Mexico.Perhaps you would like to contact me with your name to add to it. Thank you anyway.
Today we have also sat in the Plaza and watched the world go by and been to the Museum of Native American Art. Very cultural. We came across a gallery which had a photographic exhibition of events in the US in 1964 and thereabouts. The Beatles, the Klu Klux Clan, Cassius Clay and many other things I remember. The most beautiful Giclee prints, selling for as much as $20,000 (unframed)! Fabulous exhibition and very moving. So glad we came across it.
We ate in The Plaza this evening. There is always someone playing something there, some good and some bad. Tonight there was a photographer with his camera all set up on a tripod. The sun was going down behind him but I could not work out what he was trying to take. Then realised it was getting the moon exactly behind the cross on the cathedral. Very clever. All of a sudden lots of people had their iPhones out (including me) to try and get the shot. Too far away for me. It made a pleasant end to a lovely day.
