A Brilliant Day
13/05/2024
We tried to get another drive to the top of Pikes Peak today haven fallen short of the top last time by just a little because of bad weather. However, although it is a beautiful sunny day we did not take into account that it had snowed quite heavily last night on the mountain. Therefore closed. Never mind, we very nearly reached the summit.

We thought we would hang around a bit just to see if things did improve. In the interim we revisited The Gardens of the Gods. It really is an awesome place. The weather was much improved from yesterday so more photos, lots more. We met a man who goes there every day from early in the morning. He had seen longhorn rams that morning. You obviously have to be there early. I think this place is one of the highlights of our vacation. I think if I lived in Manitou Springs I would visit every day.

We hung around most of the morning but things did not improve on the Peak so set off for Denver. Geoff had a plan as usual and we took a scenic route. It had obviously snowed quite a lot last night above a certain level and was very beautiful. We took a minor road which suddenly ran out! We were then on a dirt road with hardly anyone on it. Lots of people fishing and wonderful scenery. For a last day of our holiday it was not a bad way to end.

Now in the hotel on the apron of the airport. We are planned to fly out at 6.35 tomorrow evening (1.35 am to you people asleep). Bit worried s the next couple of days they are expecting bad weather and thunderstorms. Fingers crossed it will be OK.
