Colorado to New Mexico

Day 24

The Enchanted Circle
11/05/2024
Just another travelling day today we thought. We set out from Albuquerque to Taos and arrived there, after a rather uneventful journey, at lunchtime. We went on a shopping trip for bits and pieces in Taos square. Where we also found a lovely gallery. There we met a lovely may called Brian Hudzik, some of who’s photographic images were displayed. We chatted for some time about where, who, and when. Eventually he asked us if we had driven The Enchanted Circle, which we had not. As we had some time to kill before we were allowed to book in to our hotel, we thought why not.

What an amazing trip. From meandering streams to beautiful alpine meadows to snow capped mountains and Grand Canyon like structures. The whole trip took just under three hours and was fantastic all the way. Little western town, alpine towns, and Red River, a huge ski/summer resort. We also managed to take in elk and longhorn sheep.

We were in the south and temperatures of over 90s.s for some days. Now, 48 hours later we were nearly 2 miles up and just above freezing. We thought the snow would have gone by the time we came back north and were surprised it had not. The image shows a meadow covered in snow. It was an extraordinary trip for which we will forever be grateful to a stranger.

Tomorrow a shorter leg, maybe!
