Florida 2025
DAY 3

My favourite - burrowing owls
Everglades to Naples
14/03/2025
Up bright and early to yet another sunny day in the Everglades. Today we moved on and took a detour from the Tamiami Trail to Marco Island to see if we could find some burrowing owls. Success! Although there are numerous areas cordoned off most appeared to be deserted. However, we found one owl on his own in the grass area between the lanes. And later found these two in a park. They are normally provided with little posts with perches on top and my hope is to find one on his perch protecting his burrow. Maybe we will have better luck in Cape Coral.
We had breakfast in a diner called ‘Hoot’ which appeared to.be apt. They are all very keen on St Patricks Day round here, which is next Monday. Loads of decorations, and even bakery items for sale. By the way I have never seen so many people out walking or running in the morning. Incredible.
On to Naples. It is just so posh. Last time we were here it appeared to have dropped its standards a bit, but they are certainly back to its previous level. We visited Tommy Bahamas for Geoff to get his fix. They are back to their high level of clothes, you can once again small the sild when you walk in.
Naples is full of exotic cars, some people just cruising around showing off. Very impressive though. Your biggest task is finding somewhere to park, it is horrendous. A beautiful town though.
