Florida 2025
DAY 22 - 2 April
A Sanibel sunrise
Another day in paradise
03/04/2025
We had decided we would get up for the sunrise. We nearly didn’t! But a bit of effort at 6.30 and we made it. We were near the first people on the beach but families and keep fit people soon drifted in. Sanibel is renowned for being the shell capital of the world, but not any more I think. There were hardly any new shells on the beach come in with the tide. People still arrived with their shell bags but did not find a lot to put in them. I remember a morning when the beach was absolutely covered in live shells. By the next tide they had all gone. People did find large dead shells at times, which they were allowed to keep.
The sunrise was beautiful and the air felt fresh and cool - a lovely time for a walk.See photo
After breakfast we set out to find the marina. The roads leading down to it was definitely where the millionaires live. Fabulous houses but quite a lot of hurricane damage. Not somewhere I would like to live on a spit of land with sea one side and intercostal waterway the other. I wonder how many people have moved out since the hurricane.
We did go back to the marina this evening for a meal. A lovely setting and superb meal, and for once not too big!
