DAY 11

The Glass Ceiling
An educational day
22/03/2025
Not a good start to the day. Breakfast in the hotel was a disaster, something to do with the computers going down.Best not talked about!

We were worried we were going to be later for our booking at The Dali Museum, where we had tried to book both experiences on line, without success. I had packed all I needed into a small backpack, only to be told I could not take it in and had to leave it in a locker. You can only try your best.

We managed to get our tickets upgraded to include the 360 degree experience. The day looked up then. The 360 degree experience was awesome. Lots of images but none used here as they do not really make sense. I have always loved Dali, my first wage packet was spent on a coffee table book of his work!. We then spent a while going around the museum (my third visit!). An extraordinary talent. We did wonder what he would have made of the new technology. A number of his works of art were made into moving images in the experience which we thought he would have loved. There was also an exhibition of a collection of old photographs including some by Cartier Bresson, Lee Miller and Manray.

We then went on to the Chilhuly Museum, another wonderful experience. I have seen examples of his glass before but never in such numbers. They were fabulous and accompanied by a superb film of him talking about his art. The picture today is of a ceiling in a corridor in the museum, and you do not get much more colourful than that. The ticket included a further visit to a glass works across the road and a demonstration of a beautiful plate being made. All in all an amazing day and we got our steps in too.

Geoff had found a tapas place on the shore which he was not sure whether we would get into as apparently it is very popular and you cannot make reservations. We drove up, left the car with valet parking and got a table straight away.. Superb meal, a walk along the front to finish off the evening, called our car, and home.

Tomorrow we set out for Mount Dora.
