DAY 6

Red Bellied Woodpecker
A Day in the Swamp
17/03/2025
A cloudy day today, ideal for photography so they say. We set off for Corkscrew Swamp. We have been there before but it is a magical place o we were keen to visit again. It has grown up a lot since we last went and there did not seem so many animals and especially birds. The image I have included is a red bellied woodpecker. He is really very small and quite difficult to photograph as he kept flitting from tree to tree. We also saw other birds as well as snakes, frogs and the most beautiful barred owl who was so close to the boardwalk. However, the sun was full and high by then so it was very difficult get a good picture of him.
In all we spent 3 hours walking the boardwalk so we have definitely done our steps and exercise today.
Tonight we are going to try and get a fish dinner - we hope. The place is full of people celebrating St Patricks Day, which they appear to have been doing for 3 days. We think even the kids get the day off today. They are mad for it. A chap in the lift this morning told us it is because they have not got such a day of their own! Fair enough.
We are on the move again tomorrow. Off to Venice to stay with Alison for a few days. We will go via Cape Coral where we may even see more burrowing owls, and Punta Gorda which has the most beautiful boutique shops and may involve a bit of retail therapy!
