DAY 18 - Saturday 29 March

The Woodstock - my favourite
St Augustine to Winter Haven
29/03/2025
We set out to find supposedly the best breakfast cafe in St Augustine, The Blue Hen. There were other cafes around it but it was the only one with huge queues and three quarters of an hour waiting - we did not wait that lone. By far the best and least greasy breakfast I have had since being in the US (not counting Alison’s that is), and you could actually see the plate around it - 2 eggs, avocado and a biscuit (a scone to you), plus amazing peach butter. Geoff was not so lucky. In anticipation he ordered corned beef hash but it wasn’t. Instead big chunks of beef that had been cooked to death, not nice. I thought the staff were nice as well as the food but you cannot win all the time.
A long journey today, we set out for Winter Haven, which is outside Orlando. We went the scenic route avoiding freeways and toll roads. It took us about 4 hours with a couple of stops. Quite nice to go through the countryside and we did see a few sandhill cranes on the way, and what we think were Brahmah cows.
Now in our hotel, which we think is holding some sort of bible class - very noisy but we are only here for one night so hey ho.
Off on the road again tomorrow for a not so long other half. The picture tonight is of a Woodstock which is one of my favourites. They look so prehistoric. Geoff says I need a longer lens - here we go again!
